(Ba Hons) Fine Art Year 2 - Machine Development

Machines

The main inspiration for this project would be that I was fascinated with the small components that held machinery together that we use on a daily basis, without these connections the machine as a whole could not properly function and would become unstable with this I have taken photographs of different architectural structures and machines both old and new, from visiting these places and also using pieces of imagery from magazines, I have then created a collage within photoshop to make something new, I then enlarged the imagery that I have created and cropped certain sections which I then printed out and traced lines on to the top of multiple pieces of acetate.

these are a few of my acetate drawings which I have compiled together to create a triptych each of these were a close up of my original Photoshop designs which I have traced and used as my source of development.

this is a different way of presenting my acetates by layering them on top of one another.

for this i layered the acetates but created an extra layer for the emphasis of the borders.

This is the final outcome of my development of what i called "the wasp" due to its color scheme, I also decided to convert all the parts into a motorcycle design. it is a process that I enjoyed working with.

This is the beginning of a new project that I am to work on in the future. this is how I would normally begin, this being that i would firstly cut out the images and compile all the cutouts into one file and work with what I have collected.

from this an additional piece to my artwork was formed with the imagery I had collected.

I then added this to the machinery that I already had and applied a cutout filter. from this I think it looks more in the style of a comic book, this was not intended, however I did like the outcome. This is still to be developed further a bit more. I have nicknamed this piece "the Dragonfly" due to its bug like shape. I have also been told it reminds people of one of the transformers.
