Sunlight On Water
2012
Kathryn Booth
Acrylic on Canvas
"This painting was developed following an earlier project based around sunlight through trees. I decided to look into other effects that sunlight has within different landscapes. This particular painting is of the sunset reflecting on the sea, just off the coast of north Cyprus. I wanted to look at the way the light changed the colours and textures on the surface of the water."
You Are What You Eat
Angharad Owen
2012
Photographs
420mm x 297mm
"The concept of this project was rather simple, experimentations with food to capture the running theme of ‘You Are What You Eat’. These images includes fruits placed on a plain face masks to give a form of identity, fruits meaning a healthier lifestyle, possibly a more desired outlook giving a brighter, more attractive look, which in effect to people, enhances their skin and diet. The projects experiments included working with food deemed as ‘unhealthy’ and photographed again on the mask, which captured the typical unhealthy outlook of the foods used."

Pencil on Paper
6 pieces 29.7cm x 21cm
4 pieces 21cm x 14.8 cm
"I have always had an interest in the city when it comes to drawing. My first year university project touched upon this, focusing mainly on different buildings. I used various drawing techniques which resulted in a series of drawings. The techniques included pencil, pen, color, dripped paint, cutting bits of the image, and I experimented with combining two of these techniques together. I chose a collection of drawings to show for this exhibition. Six are on A4 drawing paper and four on A5 drawing paper."
Modernist Architecture
mark Aston
2012
Canon Digital Photo RAW File Printed on Photographic Paper.
59cm x 84cm
"This Photograph was inspired by research for the Revisiting Utopia Exhibition Hosted by 'In Certain Places'. The exhibition was focused on modernist architecture in the post-regenerate city of Preston.
The style of the photography is intended to reflect the mood and emotion of modernist architecture and how it can be perceived in a contemporary context."
Mechanical Abstraction
James Bamford
2012
acetate images in clip frames
42cm x 29.7cm
"My work consists of a variety of techniques using line, collage and layers. The work itself is based around a collection of images which I created on Photoshop to make my line drawings from. I cropped certain areas from these images to make them more interesting and appear abstract. I then used black permanent markers on acetate to trace the lines, leaving only lines and negative spaces. I then layered them up. I allowed the multiple traced images to fall to the ground freely and fit into place by chance. I then moved the pieces to fit within he clip frames."

Insulation Tape
Photograph
"My work is based around colorful installations which are made from everyday modern materials. This example is bright colored insulation tape, which I have used to create patterns. The tape, an everyday object which is applied in continuous lines has a capacity to transform the space. This changes the atmosphere in the space giving it more energy creating movement within the piece without it moving at all."
Search for completeness
Yagmur Bayhanli
2012
17 cm x 12.5 cm
Series of Photographs
"People are always lonely individually. Whatever happens, there is a search for something inside that no one can fill. As a woman, they pursue this incompleteness. Sometimes they feel happy, thinking that they have found it; and sometimes sad, feeling they lost it. However the search always continues…
Once they take their child, a part of their body, on their lap, they instinctively feel that the real meaning of life has filled the vacuum inside and touched their soul. The yellow colour that life has suddenly changed. All colours and odours are in their hands now."

Pen on paper
30cm x 30cm
"My work is based on natural structures. I spend a lot of time outdoors and have become fascinated and inspired by the beauty in nature, in things such as feathers, leaves, shells and seeds. I am particularly interested in trees and leaves, and it is this which I have decided to centre my project around. My drawings focus on leaves. I have worked from photographs which I have taken, using black pen to create my drawings, taking away the colour from the object, leaving the detail in the form as the main focal point of the piece, as it is the detail in the leaves that interests me most."

2012
Oil on canvas
"I started looking at the idea of changes in the body and then linked this towards different illnesses that caused these changes. I experimented with color through looking at different body scans such as the MRI scan. I transferred the contrasting colors from the MRI scan to a painting of the female form. I used the different colors to show varying signs of illness and health in the painting."

Film
"As an artist, my primary interests are in sculpture, film and animation. In my current project I am aiming towards combining these elements together to create a body of work. To create this video, I have taken a series of photographs that show the construction of a clay model and compiled them together to make a stop frame animation. This brings ‘life’ to an inanimate object. I aim to give my work the same quirkiness that I am drawn to and inspired by from other artists such as David Shrigley, Claes Oldenburg and Vik Muniz."
Capturing a memory
Gloria Burton
2012
Acrylics on tracing paper
"This piece is based on Identity, capturing a memory all in one of these individual people.Placing these portraits on tracing paper creates a emptiness, you cannot define who these people really are or my relationship with them. I do not open up any personal connections in this painting, this would take away from the idea I am trying to portray. You never really know what is going behind closed doors. Even though these people may not be blood related to you, they are family.
The paint may appear tense but really is that what the purpose is?"
